What an embarrassing moment!
Have you ever witnessed a kid kicking a fuss over not getting what he wants in public? Have you wished or even vowed that you're never going to have to raise kids like that? Have you also secretly pitied the Mummy involved and relieved that you are not in her shoes? I have come across many and swore I'll never be in their shoes. However, today I became the center of attention not because of a spoilt brat but TWO SPOILT BRATS!!
Never willing to share their possessions, Don and Domi created a scene starting from NTUC all the way home (about 300m, but it seemed very far away today I swear) by screaming, "I want this! I want this!". Mummy tried to coax the other screaming tot to accept the other sweet of another flavour but was answered by louder screams. Fine. Mummy walked off with 2 of them trying to outscream each other. Their cries unknowingly attracted a number of onlookers and that made Mummy madder. By stomping off, the boys cried even louder and Mummy could feel a million pairs of eyes on her and judging what a failure she was. As the saying goes, 'if looks could kill, she would have died, a million times over'.
We have always been strict, if not, very strict with the boys. But why did this have to happen to us even then? It is quite understandable that children of Domi's age still doesn't have the concept of sharing so that behaviour from him can be forgiven and managed later. What about Don? Well, we could only use stories and more heart-to-heart talks before bedtime to deal with this issue. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that such moments don't arise too often.
