Dominus’ birth story

14th Jan 2008:
Mummy was due for a check-up with Dr KT Tan at 2pm. Mummy told Dr Tan of her false contractions that took place a couple of days ago. Dr Tan decided to do a VE for Mummy to check if Mummy and Didi is ready for delivery. True enough, Mummy’s cervix was already 2.5-3cm dilated. Dr Tan then gave Mummy the option to induce delivery at a desired date or to wait for the water bag to burst naturally. Mummy chose to induce a day later as that will give her ample time to make preparations for Didi’s arrival.

Mummy woke up at 5:50am, bathed and got ready for the coming ordeal. Daddy and Mummy then went for breakfast of their usual ‘fishball bah chor mee’. Daddy commented that the wait for the food was rather long. Could it be that Daddy was feeling jittery?
After breakfast, they headed down to KKH immediately and were surprised that the CTE could be sooooo jam-packed even before 7am. They arrived at the delivery suite at 7:08am. Mummy got changed into the delivery gown. Dr KT Tan came in about 7:30am and performed an induction by bursting Mummy’s water bag. Shortly, Mummy was given the epidural. By this time, Mummy’s cervix was 4cm dilated.
About 2 hours later, the mid-wife checked that Mummy had progressed rather positively and decided to get ready for delivery. She started explaining to Mummy exactly what to expect and how to breathe and position herself in order for a quick and efficient delivery. Mummy listened attentively. She practiced breathing and pushing with Mummy with Daddy assisting at the side. Memory of how to breathe and push was vivid as I was delivered less than 18 months ago. After a few tries, the mid-wife called for Dr Tan.
My lovely Didi arrived at 1032, barely 5 minutes after Dr Tan arrived. Wow! That was a neat 3 hours of labour. Baby Dominus weighs 3.39kg and measures 48cm tall. Welcome to this world!
