Oh Dear! My son is a liar!

Why am I washing my dirty linen on the world wide web? Im not. This blog basically serves as an online diary for my children to read when they are old enough. This blog is a record of the nitty-gritty in their growing up. This particular entry talks about Donovan who was caught lying a couple of times.

One day after BERRIES class, Donovan came home with a toy in his pocket and proudly presented it to Mummy as a gift. Mummy was puzzled when she saw the foreign object and queried where he got that from. Donovan hesitated before replying that he'd bought it. Technically, there is no way he could have bought it since he had no money, and Mummy had personally dropped and then fetched him from class. Mummy probed further but Donovan insisted that he had bought it. Mummy then told Daddy of her suspicion and both sat down to 'grill' him. At the end of the session, he admitted to have taken it from BERRIES class and it was all because his classmate had 'given' it to him. So he thought he could have it. After some explanations, he understood that it was a wrong behaviour and he apologised. Case closed, or so we thought.

A few days later, Dominus came home from Cherie hearts with a toy too, or rathar, part of a toy. Same story. He took it, put into his pocket and forgotten about it. Same procedure, talked to the 2 of them and returned the toy the next day.

Yesterday, Donovan and Dominus were drawing with some markers. Domi had a black marker while Don had the purple one. Don drew on the door and soon realised he'd be scolded so when Daddy walked into the room, Don immediately told Daddy it was Domi who drew on the door. Daddy looked at the ink on the door and saw the 'evidence' of the matching purple marker in Don's hands and immediately knew he was lying. Daddy then told him that it couldn't have been Domi who drew it since he was holding a different marker and that left Don speechless. Daddy wanted to get Don to tell the truth so he kept prompting Don to admit. Don kept quiet throughout and was finally made to stand at the naughty corner.

That night, Mummy used her same old method of storytelling to teach the boys about differentiating between the good and the bad. Don cried after listening to the story. He was crying out of guilt and we could tell he was sorry. It is impossible not to make mistakes in life. But what's more important is that we learn from it an not repeat it.
