Sleep baby sleep
To many of us, sleep comes easily. In fact, most of us would consider ourselves to be sleep-deprived. However for Baby Rei, sleep is a discipline which needs to be trained for. For many months, Baby Rei suffers from sleep disorders; rather, he is the one having the condition while the rest of us suffers. He would be awfully awake when night falls and instead, falls into deep sleep when the family is up and about for the day. This condition had caused us great distress and injected creativity in the elderly to think of 'supernatural' reasons for baby's jumbled-up sleeping hours.
Both Grandmas came up with weird ideas and solutions to help solve the problem. Some are funny, some are unheard of and some are totally absurd. The ultimatum came when Ah-ma suggested bringing Baby Rei to consult a medium as she suspects baby might be 'disturbed' by some third-dimensional energies. Mummy was totally against it and brought up her idea to consult a sleep therapist instead.
Young Parent's November issue had an article on sleeping disorders and the specialists to contact. Mummy decided to give it a try despite the astronomical fees attached to it. The therapist gave Mummy an action plan to follow after hearing about Baby Rei's irregular sleeping patterns and on that immediate night, we saw improvements in Baby Rei's sleeping hours. He was able to fall asleep at normal hours and managed to stay asleep for 4.5 hours. The 2nd night was 5 hours and by the 3rd night, Rei could sleep through the night, only waking once for milk.
Mummy and Jerrimie were totally grateful for the therapist's solution as it gave us uninterrupted sleep which we were seriously deprived of for the last 2 months or so. Baby Rei is also latching well whole day through and Mummy is glad she managed to persevere with breastfeeding and put aside that one and only neglected tin of formula. Breastmilk is still the best, for now.
