What's the big deal?
I have always stuck with my own beliefs and ideals as a Mother, my kids should sleep with me, I should always give nothing but the best for my kids, even to the extent where it is taking away what's holding me together, until one day where I sat in this conversation with my colleagues. There were 4 of us who were all mothers of 3 kids and we were thrashing out solutions to some of the problems we face with our kids. One problem posed was to do with indulging our kids with treats. All of us, in fact, have battled with our children whenever they ask for sweets, chocolates and/or ice-cream only to the extent where we realise giving such treats weren't that bad after all. I mean, all of us grew up having a fair amount of sweets, chocolates and ice-cream too, and we turned out fine. Instead of going through the process of rejecting and then explaining why we aren't granting them their wishes, it seemed less tiring and less harmful to our relationships if we were to just say 'okay'. One colleague even mentioned that as long as we don't withhold these items like prized possessions, they might just stop craving for them. Once, she bought a dozen cups of ice-cream for her children, only to find out that they grew tired of them no sooner than thinking she'd need to replenish. So what's the big deal here? They're just kids right?
Managing 3 young kids isn't a walk in the park, even though there are enough pairs of hands at home to share the baby-sitting load. Mummy realised that she can no longer manage all within her perimeter of care and had unwillingly allow Jerrimie to take care of Baby Rei during the nights. Settling the 2 older ones for the evening is enough to drain away all of Mummy's energies, not mentioning having to supply enough milk for Baby Rei, who is still adjusting to his 'night life'. Mummy even succumbed to giving formula milk to make sure Baby Rei is able to sleep well at night and that Mummy can have more rest in the nights. Like the sand falling out of a palm, there's only this much a hand can grasp, while helplessly watching the uncontainable go.
